Editor's info:
The city of Jerusalem played a central role in the culture, religion and art of North African Jews during the centuries, from medieval times to the 20th century.
This album contains original lyrical pieces that deal with Jerusalem, performed by the authentic Israeli Andalusian Orchestra and sung mainly by Emile Zrihan, a celebrated chanter.
These pieces were written originally in Hebrew and based on an Arabic texture of phrasing. The album was recorded in order to celebrate Jerusalem's 3000 anniversary and is rich in color and expression.
The orchestra uses Western instruments, violins, cellos, viola and oboe, side by side with typical oriental instruments such as oud and darbouka.
Listening to Jerusalem makes one feel as a genuine participant in a vivid celebration, inspiring to intellect and senses.
