The playing [in the Quintet and Quartet] has a delightful combination of zest and refinement, and love for the music’s poetry and delight in its unique inventiveness emanates from just about every phrase.

[Quartet] Quite marvelous in the Scherzo is the sense of delight at playing the rapid passagework so nimbly and with perfect ensemble. Coq’s pianism is reserved by virtuoso standards, but it is all the more effective for merging into the overall tone. Pidoux plays the opening theme of the slow movement exquisitely.

Spirit and energy are features of the music-making here, whether in the outer movements of the Piano Quintet or the Allegro of the Quartet. And there’s also an inherent classicism compared to some accounts.
