As a bonus, we have included all of the songs featuring Hank Jones solos from a group of sessions made by the exact same personnel during April and May of 1956 for the Epic label.

The recently deceased Hank Jones was one of the most prolific pianists in jazz history (he was born in Vicksburg, Mississippi on July 31, 1918 and died in New York on May 16, 2010, at the age of 91). Despite his ubiquitous presence in jazz dating back to the mid-40s, Jones' recordings as a leader are extremely rare and took place in the early and the later stages of his career. While his fellow musicians considered him to be one of the most influential and individual voices of his instrument, Jones had to wait many decades to receive the recognition he was due as one of the leading exponents of the jazz piano. The Talented Touch (Cap T1044) was recorded in New York for the Capitol label during the spring or summer of 1958 (the exact date is unknown). Jones had already been recording for a decade by the time of the album's release. The Talented Touch turned out to be the last quartet recording of Hank Jones, Barry Galbraith, Milt Hinton and Osie Johnson together, although they would continue to work together frequently as a rhythm section for other artists' albums through 1965.
