The National Gintenkai Project is the performing unit comprised of professional and long-time community members from Tsukasa Taiko in Chicago and GenRyu Arts in San Francisco. The group specializes in revived compositions from 1970s Tokyo, embracing the aesthetics of traditional Japanese music derived from theater and performance, with the mission of maintaining the artistic integrity and proper lineage of taiko. The National Gintenkai Project celebrates performs annually at the Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago for Tsukasa Taiko's Taiko Legacy and Reduction presentations, as well as other cultural and professional venues throughout the Midwest and Bay Area Region. The Project is overseen by Asian Improv aRts Midwest's artistic director Tatsu Aoki. The ensemble presents authentic original Taiko music from 1970 s Tokyo and contemporary collaboration with world famous Melody Takata, Coco Elyesses and JoVia Armstrong.
