Amerykański Soul Master rocznik 1950, czasami nazywany nickiem "Little JB", jako żywo przypominający posturą i głosem Jamesa Browna. Przez dziesięciolecia był zapraszany przez bardziej utytułowanych kolegów, jak Kool and the Gang, B.B. King, Dr. John, Tyrone Davis, Johnny Taylor, Denise LaSalle, Bobby Blue Bland, czy Bobby Womack. Jako lider Lee Fields debiutował singlem w 1969 roku. Jego ostatnie płyty wraz z zespołem The Expressions, wśród nich "Faithful Man" (2012), "Special Night" (2017) i "It Rains Love" (2019) sprawiły, że zyskał dużą popularność. Nie dziwi fakt, że już kilkanaście lat temu trafił pod skrzydła właścicieli Daptone Records, gdzie nagrywali Sharon Jones i Charles Bradley.

Świeżo wydany przez połączone siły Daptone Records i Desco Records, zremasterowany po raz pierwszy od wydania w 1998 roku album "Let's Get a Groove On" to wydarzenie na soulowej scenie. Jeden z najlepszych i najbardziej satysfakcjonujących soulowych strzałów ostatnich 40 lat w wersji winylowej to prawdziwa gratka. Po odejściu z wytwórni Ace Lee Fields podpisał kontrakt z pionierską, old-schoolową oficyną Desco Records, dla której nagrała album wypełniony bardziej surowym, autentycznym funkiem, który miał ochotę nagrać od dłuższego już czasu, a na który właściciele wytwórni Ace nie chcieli się zgodzić.
Można zaryzykować tezę, że wydany w 1998 roku "Let's Get a Groove On" był jednym z głównych impulsów odrodzenia sceny soul-funk w latach 90., album ten był przełomowym momentem, który wskazał kierunek, jaką w przyszłości podążyła muzyka soul.
Wydanie w 1989 roku "Let’s Get a Groove On" ożywiło karierę Lee Fieldsa, umieszczając go w grupie liderów soulowej sceny, do której zasłużenie należy do dzisiaj.
