The composers that Makrokosmos Quartet commissioned to write the music on this record all hold Monk's music dear, this pianist-composer-bandleader, but none of them have been swayed by affection to deny their own identity... Makrokosmos's players don't play like Monk. But like him, they want to be in that place of boundaries and transitions because in that place, endings are also beginnings, and in beginnings there is new life."
