Since David Grimal took up the violin at the age of five, he has affirmed his identity as an artist. After studying at the Paris Conservatoire (CNSM) with Régis Pasquier, he was coached by eminent artists including Shlomo Mintz and Isaac Stern, before spending a year at the École des Sciences Politiques in Paris. His subsequent fortuitous meeting with Philippe Hirschhorn, who became his mentor, was decisive.

David Grimal's integrity as an artist and his pure style are appreciated all over the world. He has played in Europe, the United States, Latin America, Asia, and South Africa, and he is regularly invited to appear with the finest orchestras (Orchestre National de France, Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France, Orchestre National de Lyon, Orchestre de l'Opéra de Lyon, Orchestre Philharmonique de Strasbourg, Orchestre du Capitole de Toulouse, Orchestre Philharmonique de Monte Carlo, English Chamber Orchestra, Salzburg Mozarteum, Berliner Sinfonie, Ulster Orchestra, Irish National Orchestra, Orchestra of the Gulbenkian Foundation, Sinfonia Varsovia, Moscow Chamber Orchestra, Stockholm Chamber Orchestra, Bayerische Kammerphilharmonie, Florida Philharmonic, Budapest Radio Orchestra, the orchestras of Basle, Bilbao, Bochum, Nancy, Pays de Loire ...). He works regularly with conductors such as Emmanuel Krivine, Mathias Bamert, Hubert Soudan, Stanislas Skrowaczewski, Lawrence Foster, Jap van Sweden, Yan Pascal Tortelier, James Judd, Michael Schonwandt, Rafael Frübeck de Burgos, Heinrich Schiff and Christoph Eschenbach.

David Grimal has given chamber music performances with Boris Berezovsky, James Galway, Valery Afanassiev, Truls Mork, Xavier Phillips Georges Pludermacher, Yuri Bashmet, Jian Wan, Gérard Caussé, Michel Beroff, François René Duchable, Marc Coppey, Alain Planes, Nicholas Angelich, Anne Gastinel, Paul Lewis and others, and has appeared at many great concert halls and festivals, including the Wiener Musikverein, where he was awarded the European Culture Prize at a special concert in l996, Lincoln Center (New York), Théâtre des Champs-Élysées, Salle Pleyel, Cité de la Musique, Auditorium du Louvre, Musée d'Orsay (all five in Paris), Les FolIes Journées de Nantes, Mermoz 'Festival de Musique en Mer', festivals at Menton, Auvers-sur-Oise, Sully, Stavanger, Risor, Prades, Cervantino, and so on.

David Grimal has recorded Bach's complete Sonatas and Partitas (Transart Live). He is now working for the label Ambroisie and Naive. His new release with it is now available : Reflection works by Debussy, Bartók, Ravel, with Georges Pludermacher at piano.

David Grimal also founded Les Dissonnances, a musicians' collective (varying in size according to the requirements of the repertoire), bringing together not only professionals from the great Europeans ensembles but also promising young musicians. The ensemble will soon be making its recording début with Naive. It has already been invited to give concerts at many important venues (Cité de la Musique, Paris, Radio France, etc.), including several major festivals. As a member of the h2o Quartet, with Floriane Bonanni, Lise Berthaud and François Salque, David Grimal is preparing to record the complete Beethoven String Quartets with naive. He is also artist in residence at Le Volcan (Scene Nationale) in Le Havre.
