Zespół Camerata Trajectina zespół (utworzony w 1974 roku jako Utrecht Music Company) przez lata wyrobił sobie niezwykłą markę na europejskiej scenie muzyki dawnej. W Holandii to nie jest zespół ale instytucja - taką pozycję osiągnęli nagrywając niemal każdy rodzaj powstałej w Niderlandach muzyki od średniowiecza do końca siedemnastego stulecia (wiele, bardzo wiele z tych utworów zarejestrowanych zostało po raz pierwszy w historii właśnie przez zespół Camerata Trajectina). Nigdy nie mieli stałego składu osobowego natomiast szybko wykształcił się pewien trzon zespołu, do którego dołączali różni współpracujący z nim muzycy, ale też muzykolodzy i badacze dawnych instrumentów i dawnych technik wykonawczych. Jądro zespołu to w przede wszystkim Louis Peter Grijp, lutnista i dyrektor artystyczny zespołu, sopranistka Hieke Meppelink, tenor Nico van der Meel, flecista i gambistka Saskia Coolen, oraz grający na violi da gamba i instrumentach perkusyjnych Erik Beijer.

W repertuarze grupy zajmuje się główne miejsce zajmują programy ukazujące kulturę muzyczną Holandii i Niderlandów w ważnych dla historii tych krajów momentach - albo inaczej - ukazujące wydarzenie historyczne przez pryzmat kultury muzycznej epoki i skutki w muzyce tego regionu, jakie te wydarzenie spowodowały. Czasami skupiają się na roli poszczególnych postaci historycznych czy też myślicieli i wielkich humanistów dawnych epok ukazując jak ich dokonania odciskały piętno na muzyce i muzycznej kulturze regionu. Tym razem sięgają po utwory bliskie ludowej kulturze, pochodzące z bardzo popularnych w drugiej połowie siedemnastego stulecia śpiewników z Maassluise, po raz pierwszy opublikowanych w roku 1660.

The production of " Maassluis Hoekertje " is the latest CD from the ensemble, Camera Trajectina containing songs from the Maassluise songbooks.

For Maassluis, the seventeenth century was a golden age and the population celebrated this age; you can hear the language from the local songbooks that appeared in Maassluis such as ' t Nieuw Maas - Sluysche Hoekertje , it Maes sluysche Compas and Maes - sluysse Meeuwe - lamentation - only titles all refer to the local economy.

Local songbooks were a fad in seventeenth- century Dutch cities and Maassluis was one of the first villages where we know one appeared: the said Maas - Sluysche Hoekertje CL Denik , first published in 1660 should be noted as such. The Maassluise songbooks were a lot more serious than the local secular vocal collections elsewhere - others contain a single perfunctory praise of the local beauties (in an especially amorous language!) and cheerful songs of all kinds, whereas in Maassluis the main themes were celebrating their local fishing economy and religion.

Since 1974 Camerata Trajectina has specialized in music from Dutch national history, celebrating projects William of Orange, PC Hooft, Jacob Cats, John Calvin, Jan Steen, Frans Hals, the VOC and much more.


The Camerata Trajectina ensemble ('Utrecht Music Company', set up in 1974) has made a name for itself playing Dutch music from the Middle Ages through the 17th century. The nucleus of the ensemble consists of Hieke Meppelink (soprano), Nico van der Meel (tenor), Saskia Coolen (recorders, viol), Erik Beijer (viol, percussion) and Louis Peter Grijp (lute, cittern, artistic director), often joined by Sytse Buwalda (countertenor), Marcel Moester (baritone), Annelies van der Vegt or Antoinette Lohmann (baroque violin) and many other musicians.

The group's repertoire deals chiefly with themes and individuals from Dutch history. The ensemble took part in the National Commemorations of the Union of Utrecht (1979), William of Orange (1984), Constantijn Huygens (1987), the humanist Dirck Volkertszoon Coornhert (1990), the Peace of Westphalia (1998) and the Dutch East India Company (2002) and in commemorations of the poets Gerbrandt Adriaenszoon Bredero, Joost van den Vondel and the Frisian Gysbert Japix, and of the reformer Menno Simons and the Dutch Remonstrant Society. A special theme is the relationship between painting and music, in connection with the exhibitions Music and Painting (Hoogsteder, The Hague 1995), about Jan Steen (Rijksmuseum, Amsterdam 1996) and Frans Hals and his contemporaries (Haarlem 2004). In 2005 Camerata celebrated the 500th anniversary of Jacob Obrecht's death with new lyrics for his liedekens by the famous Dutch poet Gerrit Komrij.

The ensemble has given hundreds of concerts: in the Netherlands (including many appearances in the Utrecht Early Music Festival), Belgium and many other European countries, in the United States, Mexico, Canada, Indonesia and Ghana. Camerata Trajectina has recorded more than 30 CDs of Dutch music for the labels Globe and Philips Classics.
