Ludzki głos to najwspanialszy z instrumentów, każdy słyszał to zdanie. O tym jak niezwykłym i bogatym w brzmienia jest on instrumentem przekonamy się sięgając po płytę Leah Stuttard, Clare Norburn i Ariane Prussner. Każda z nich to wyśmienita śpiewaczka, Leah Stuttard gra ponadto na średniowiecznej harfie i bębnie obręczowym. W tak skomponowanym składzie sięgnąć można po skarby muzyki średniowiecznej.
Płyta "Gardens of Delight: Roses, Lilies & Other Flowers in Medieval Song" to prawdziwy Ogród Rozkoszy. Czego tu nie znajdziemy, kompozycje benedyktynki Hildegard von Bingen, opowiadające o niezwykłej, intymnej więzi z Bogiem, Johannesa Ciconia, wielkiego prekursora renesansu, Guillaume'a de Machaut, najwybitniejszego kompozytora francuskiego XIV wieku, czy mistrza włoskiego średniowiecza - Antonia Zacara Da Teramo. Jednak trzonem programu tej znakomitej płyty są kompozycje anonimowych autorów.
Od otwierającej płytę sefardyjskiej pieśni "La Rosa Enflorese" po "Laude Novella Sia Cantata" ze słynnego kodeksu Laudario di Cortona. Od "Rosa Das Rosas" ze zbioru Cantigas de Santa Maria po piękną pieśń trubadurów "Unter Den Linden".

"Gardens of Delight" to rodzaj baśniowej podróży po miastach w Hiszpanii, we Francji, Włoszech, Anglii, Holandii i Niemczech. W średniowiecznych tekstach odnajdujemy wiele odniesień do kwiatów, w szczególności do lilii i róż. Te dwa kwiaty w ikonografii średniowiecznej mają określone znaczenie, lilie symbolizowały czystość ciała i jasność umysłu. Róże z kolei to symbol miłości, zarówno tej świeckiej jak i sakralnej. Oba kwiaty często występują wraz z wizerunkiem Dziewicy Maryi.

Wyrafinowane wręcz piękno wykonania poszczególnych utworów, swobodna komunikacja między śpiewaczkami, świadomość ile waży cisza to jedne z wielu atutów The Telling. Ich wykonania muzyki dawnej ukazują, jak przeszłość muzyki żyje często niezauważona pośród muzyki tworzonej dziś. Założony w 2009 roku zespół The Telling tworzą w końcu współpracownicy wielu uznanych zespołów jak Society of Strange & Ancient Instruments, I Fagiolini, Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment, Carnival Band i The Dufay Collective.

'Gardens of Delight' is the first in a series of new recordings from the popular Medieval ensemble The Telling. This beautiful and interesting album features songs associated with flowers from the composers Guillaume de Machaut, Johannes Ciocnia, Antonio Zacara da Teramo and Hildegard of Bingen.

References to lilies and roses and many other flowers abound in both secular and sacred texts that were set to music from across European medieval repertoire from the 12th to the early 15th century. These two flowers in particular provided a rich symbolism: lilies represented purity and brightness in a sacred context and roses are often used to represent love, either secular or sacred. Both flowers were strongly associated with the Virgin Mary ? the lily particularly is associated with the annunciation, the biblical scene in which the Angel Gabriel appears to Mary to announce that she will give birth. Countless painting and altarpieces show Gabriel presenting a lily to Mary for example.

The Telling has a growing reputation for creating intimate, staged concerts to bring medieval music off the page and reach wider audiences.
