Münir Nurettin Beken, August Denhard: A Meeting Place - Medieval & Renaissance Music for Lute & Ud

While the Turkish oud was primarily played with the plectrum, the game developed into polyphonic complexity on the counterpart - the lute - which spread throughout Europe. The strings were plucked simultaneously by the fingers to imitate two-, three- or even four-part vocal structures. Today the lute and the oud seem to speak very different musical languages due to cultural differences, and yet the two instruments are of the same origin. On this CD, they find their common roots in the music of the Middle Ages and the Renaissance and lead a lively and extremely harmonious conversation.
