This two-CD set on the new Phoenix label replaces the now deleted version, previously on Lonehill Jazz, which was the first ever compilation of all of the Wynton Kelly Trio's live recordings at New York's Half Note club first released in 1965.
Not only does it include all of the celebrated live sessions with Wes Montgomery - that were disseminated over several different albums forcing the collector to buy numerous LPs prior to this edition to get the complete set - but it also includes The Wynton Kelly Trio's more difficult to find recordings at the club. In the past this material was only released on Xanadu and has been out of print for 15 years
So here you have the superb Wynton Kelly Trio with Jimmy Cobb (d) and Paul Chambers (b) - joined on the first CD by the great Wes Montgomery - this was originally titled "Smoking At The Half Note" and according to Pat Metheny "...is the absolute greatest jazz guitar album ever made. It is the record that taught me how to play".
