Urodzony w 1944 roku pianista George Cables bardzo wcześnie rozpoczął zawodową karierę - już jako dziewiętnastolatek grał profesjonalnie w zespołach jazzowych (Jazz Samaritans) mając za partnera późniejszego legendarnego bębniarza Billy'ego Cobhama. Cables pracował jako pianista u boku wybitnych muzyków: Maxa Roacha, Arta Blakeya (w Jazz Messengers) czy Sonny'ego Rollinsa. W roku 1975 dla wytwórni Why Not nagrał swój pierwszy autorski album mając za partnerów perkusistę Carla Burnett'a i grającego na basie Tony'ego Dumas. Muzyka zawarta na płycie jest jakby próbą zdefiniowania współczesnego (na ówczesne czasy) tria z fortepianem. Płyta pomimo ponad 30 lat jakie upłynęły od jej nagrania nie straciła nic ze swojej aktualności czy świeżości - w dalszym ciągu muzyki tej świetnie się słucha. Pianist and New Yorker George Cables absorbed all that the city had to offer and its influence on him shaped his approach to music. Trained classically as a youth Cables attended the Mannes College of Music for two years and by the age of 19 was playing professionally with the Jazz Samaritans alongside drum legend Billy Cobham. Cables went on to work as sideman with Max Roach, Art Blakey and the Jazz Messengers and after touring with Sonny Rollins he settled in Los Angeles.

In 1975 the perceptive Masahiko Yuh, sensing that here was an artist drastically underexposed as a leader, went to LA to record this record. With Tony Dumas on bass and Carl Burnett on drums to trio recorded at Record Plant Studios. The result was a record which defines the modern jazz piano trio in a manner which is always contemporary and always fresh even decades after it was recorded.

Originally released on the "Why Not" label this album fell into obscurity until Candid Record's Alan Bates acquired the label in the late 1990s. In 2009 Candid bring these fantastic recordings back from the brink.
