Editor's info:
GUNDE ON GARNER - alias pianist Henrik Gunde, bassist Nicolas Kock and drummer Steen Holm – have been together since 1995. The trio’s music has always defined itself through the world of Erroll Garner. They have adapted the late piano master’s swinging and extroverted style as their own, and performed a repertoire almost exclusively consisting of original Garner arrangements. In recent years, however, we have experienced the trio playing their own arrangements of Danish and foreign songs in Garner’s spirit. Following in Garner’s footsteps, they utilize any good tune regardless of its original idiom, be it a pop, jazz or rock song. Garner put his personal fingerprints and uniquely characteristic swing on whatever he played. This CD features tunes that Garner might have played, had he been given the chance to hear them.

Hvorfor Er Lykken Sa Lunefuld (Why Is Fortune So Unpredictable), En Skarslippers Forarssang (The Knife Grinder’s Song), Skibet Skal Sejle I Nat (The Ship Departs Tonight), Sangen Om Larsen (Mr. Smith’s Song) and Manestralen (Moonlight) are all old Danish evergreens that deserve to be heard again and again, outside Denmark as well – and work perfectly in Garner’s style. Kloden Drejer Stille Rundt (The Earth Turns Slowly) and Love Is A Matter Of... are more recent Danish rock songs. Santa Lucia is a popular Christmas song in Scandinavia despite its Italian origins.

Just the Way You Are, New York State of Mind, Sorry Seems to Be the Hardest Word and Don’t Know Why are all international pop hits composed after Garner’s death in 1977.

Gunde On Garner’s repertoire includes the world’s most played tune - a Danish tune – Jacob Gade’s Tango Jalousie. The tune has all it takes to be played in Garner’s spirit, and he’s probably sitting up there somewhere, annoyed that he didn’t play it!!!
Please enjoy this collection of songs that could have been played by Garner – if he had only known them...

Henrik Gunde is one of the busiest jazz musicians in Denmark. He fits in almost everywhere almost regardless of style. He is gifted with an formidable ability to swing and GUNDE ON GARNER have created a wonderful ”feel-good-cd”..... so feel good with.... Songs that could have been played by Erroll Garner – if he had only known them.....
