Najnowszy, podwójny album Roscoe Mitchella - założyciela i lidera Art Ensemble Of Chicago ukazał się właśnie nakładem francuskiej oficyny Rogue ART. Uznawany m.in. przez Anthony'ego Braxtona za najlepszego żyjącego saksofonistę i najbardziej kreatywnego jazzowego muzyka, od lat studiuje fletową muzykę barokową i coraz wyraźniej słychać to w jego autorskich projektach - prócz formalnych nawiązań, odchodzą one od energicznej, jazzowej żywiołowości i stają się coraz bardziej abstrakcyjne, balansują niemal na pograniczu 'contemporary music". W tym przypadku w jazzowej formule zakorzenia je bodaj tylko sekcja rytmiczna - współpracujący z Fredem Andersonem basista Harrison Bankhead i znany z duetów z Mitchellem i nagrań z innymi członkami Art Ensemble Vincent Davis.

(...) 40 lat temu saksofonista Roscoe Mitchell założył jedną z najbardziej wpływowych grup jazzowej awangardy - Art Ensemble Of Chicago. Od tamtej pory nie spuszcza z tonu. Wciąż prowadzi zespół i powołuje coraz to nowe projekty autorskie. Dwie godziny muzyki z 'No Side Effects" kapitalnie wprowadzają w niepowtarzalny świat mistrza rozpostarty między afrykańskim obrzędem, współczesną kameralistyką i wyzwolonym jazzem ze szkoły Ornette Colemana. Mitchell ma coś z intuicji ludowych grajków działających w wyższej świadomości transu czy medytacji. Partie jego saksofonów są filigranowe, abstrakcyjne i nieprzewidywalne.
