The compositions of Isaac Albeniz were deeply inspired by popular music. On this recording, which transcribes Albeniz's piano work Rumores de la Caleta, guitarists Pedro Soler and Philippe Mouratoglou reveal the essential relationship between the classical language of the composer and that of traditional flamenco. Soler provides the spirit of the golden age of flamenco while Mouratoglou brings the rigor and formalism of classical training. Together they reveal a 'cante primitive' that combines passion and poetry in equal measure.
