Gitara Monette miewa twarde, niemal soulowe brzmienie - wydaje się, że w tym czasie używa dodatkowych przetworników - a jej dźwięki mocno odbiegają i od czystych linii melodycznych bardziej konwencjonalnych gitarzystów i od abstrakcyjnych produkcji przedstawicieli awangardy.
Sudler porusza się zdecydowanie we własnej, unikalnej przestrzeni, doskonale utrwalonej na tej płycie, odkrywającej pokłady dźwięków niesłyszanych nigdy wcześniej - wspaniale inspirujący kontekst dla jej kreatywności.
Nie śpiewa w każdym z utworów, choć ma się takie wrażenie słuchając jej chrapliwego, ciepłego głosu, budującego sympatyczny pomost między spirytualnym jazzem i indie -soulem. Pozostałymi wykonawcami są David Neerman na wibrafonie, Arthur Simonini na skrzypcach oraz John Betsch lub Arnaud Biscay za perkusją.
Lista utworów zawiera wspaniałą wersję "Equipoise" Stanley'a Cowell'a, ucztę dla uszu w każdym wykonaniu - tu w szczególności, plus "Baby Erik", "Use Me", "Infant Eyes", "Don't Stress Me Out", "Days In Days Out" i "Caminey".

Beautiful new work from one of the most enigmatic jazz talents to ever come from the Philly jazz scene of the 70s -- guitarist Monette Sudler, also quite an interesting singer as well! Monette's got a gritty, almost soul-based tone in her guitar -- which seems to use some extra processing this time around -- and her tones are far from the cleaner lines of more conventional jazz guitarists, and from the more abstract ones of avant players. Instead, Sudler's very much in her own unique space -- recorded brilliantly here in a way that unlocks layers of sound we've never heard before -- a wonderfully sensitive setting for her creative talents. Monnette doesn't sing on every track, but we sure like it when she does -- as she's got a raspy, warm voice that bridges a nice gap between spiritual jazz and indie soul. Other players include David Neerman on vibes, Arthur Simonini on violin, and John Betsch or Arnaud Biscay on drums -- and titles include a great version of Stanley Cowell's "Equipoise", always a treat in any version, but especially nice here -- plus "Baby Erik", "Use Me", "Infant Eyes", "Don't Stress Me Out", "Days In Days Out", and "Caminey". A session that's very much in the best spirit of the vintage spiritual jazz issued by the Heavenly Sweetness label!
