"Phil Woods has, over the years, surrounded himself with excellent musicians, but hardly ever another horn player. His quartet consisted of piano, bass, drums and, of course, his own alto sax. When it was expanded to a quintet, it was with the addition of a guitar. Thus it was an event worth marking when, about two years ago, he began to jam with Tom Harrell, a trumpet and flugelhorn player, and who has since become a regular member of the new Phil Woods Quintet. This is the second album by the Quintet, coming after Heaven."
Obviously, Harrel answers Wood's expectations, and his playing is a great pleasure in this album. In his passionate performance he seems to be voicing his determination to match Woods note for note, idea for idea".
