Trudno opisać, co dzieje się w "Athens to Athens", oryginalnie nieco ponad dwuminutowej miniaturce, która tu jest trwającym niemal trzy razy dłużej majstersztykiem, gdzie solowe popisy prezentują O’Connor, Wester i Schierbaum, oraz na przykład w "Jockey Full Of Bourbon", rozpoczynającym się w niemal kabaretowym stylu lat '30, a później zyskującym coraz więcej latynoskich fluidów. Świetny, zagrany slidem na gitarze dobro (brzmiący lepiej niż w wersji studyjnej) "From The Valley" poprzedza dla odmiany, bardziej niż na płycie ascetyczny, hit "The Ballad Of John Henry", a zagrana na djembe solówka Castro w "Dislocated Boy" nieuchronnie przywołuje afrykański klimat. A to wszystko to tylko ułamek atrakcji "An Acoustic Evening at the Vienna Opera House", na którym do głosu dochodzą jeszcze patenty bardziej osadzone w bluesie i country. To po prostu fenomenalny konglomerat dźwięków, zaczerpniętych z odrębnych kultur, który z całą mocą dowodzi, że muzyka rzeczywiście jest uniwersalnym językiem.

Dla porządku wspomnę jeszcze, że druga płyta DVD zawiera dokument o akustycznej trasie oraz film z wypowiedziami wszystkich zaangażowanych w projekt muzyków oraz producenta i spiritus movens całego przedsięwzięcia, Kevina Shirleya. Chwilę po obejrzeniu na jednym wdechu "An Acoustic Evening at the Vienna Opera House", miałem ochotę natychmiast ponownie odpalić to DVD, a dźwiękowy zapis koncertu na CD towarzyszy mi codziennie.

Joe Bonamassa - An Acoustic Evening at the Vienna Opera House to be released on 25 March 2013 as 2-CD, 2-LP, 2-DVD, Blu-ray. The show was recorded at the historic Vienna Opera House July 2012 during a very special two-week long unplugged tour, played to a limited audience over seven exclusive European shows. Varying from his predominantly electric blues shows, this presentation was an all-acoustic concert performance, making it a unique and very special show fans had been waiting years to experience.

Supporting Joe on his vintage acoustic instruments is an eclectic assortment of craftsmen of disparate World flavors, provided by top artists from around the globe. The musicians that will help shape this musical experience include: Gerry O’Connor, a music historian and traditional Irish fiddler from many generations of Irish music. He has recorded dozens of albums and is recognized as the leading exponent of his craft. He will also play mandolin and Irish banjo. Swedish multi-instrumentalist Mats Wester will add to this cultural melting-pot of music with his main instrument, the Nyckelharpa, a Swedish keyed-fiddle which will inject a traditional and unique "world" feel into a set of original and iconic songs. Los Angeles keyboard maestro Arlan Schierbaum, whose extensive recording career focuses on organic instruments, will add all manner of musical textures with accordions, celeste, toy pianos, and more. Rounding out this cast of extraordinary performers is legendary Puerto Rican percussionist Lenny Castro, whose works spans genres and reads like a who's who of artists, including the Rolling Stones, Sir Elton John, Eric Clapton, Boz Scaggs, Toto, Steely Dan, Christopher Cross, Stevie Wonder, David Sanborn, Avenged Sevenfold, Little Feat, Tom Petty, the Red Hot Chili Peppers and hundreds of others.

The show is produced by Kevin Shirley, whose productions have been at the top of the charts for decades, including works by everyone from Led Zeppelin and Iron Maiden to Olivia Newton-John and John Hiatt.
