Editor's info:
A classical musician and a contemporary improviser, Henri Tournier is one of the finest French flutist, mastering both wetsern and Indian flute techniques. He has always sought to widen his knowledge and experience.

His meeting with Hindustani bansuri flute master Hariprasad Chaurasia is a major turning-point in his career : he becomes his disciple, teaches with him as assistant professor at the National Conservatory of Rotterdam, and releases, in 2010, on Accords Croisés label, the double book/disc "Hariprasad Chaurasia and the Art of Improvisation".

On his disc «Breath of the World» (2015), Henri Tournier explores a new terra incognita : the multiple ways flute and human voice can dialog. Along with ten singers from various traditions (Dorsaf Hamdani (Tunisia), Alireza Ghorbani (Iran), Pronab Biswas (India), Ustad Farida Mahwash (Afghanistan), Abida Parveen (Pakistan), Enkhjargal Dandarvaanchig a.k.a « Epi » (Mongolia), Etsuko Chida (Japan), Anne-Marie Lablaude, Dominique Vellard, Carole Hémard (France)), « Breath of the World » is a renewed dialog between East and West, drawing a new carthography of flute and voice.

« Breath quartet » is the new live show of Henri Tournier based on the disc « Breath of the World », resulting from a research work on traditional Mongolian and Indian tunes with Enkhjargal Dandarvaanchig a.k.a « Epi », Mongol singer and musician (morin-khuur). The meeting with Epi shows a fascinating closeness bewteen voice and flute, and the amazing freedom the Mongol vocal technique offers. Along with Thierry Gomar on percussions and Johan Renard on violin, this technically highly-skilled quartet delivers original compositions, giving the greatest emphasis on improvisation, and definitely turned towards the musical languages of tomorrow.
