Elias Akselsen (b.1947) is with his fantastic voice Norway's foremost interpreter of the old and almost unknown romani songs. He is the great-grandchild of the "spiritual" Romani leader Stor-Johan(Big-Johan), who died at the astonishing age of 106 years. The songs on this record are religious ballads, which have been used in the family - around the campfire - throughout generations. These are ballads about the pain of walking along the highways during cold winters, ballads about love to ones own kind and God, and ballads about the eternal goal, heaven, the place where there is no more sadness and hatred.
