Editor's info:
Maghreb I compiles a selection of music that was popular among Moroccan Jews for the last centuries, varying from old Andalousian styled songs originated in the 14th and 15th centuries until 20th century popular music, influenced mainly by Egyptian style of writing.
The Moroccan singer Abdesalam Safiani is joining forces here with celebrated Israeli chanter, Emile Zrihan, to create an authentic spectacle of this nearly vanishing traditional Jewish music.
The album was recorded during a live concert at old Jaffa in 1999.
The orchestra's director and conductor, Dr. Avi Eilam Amzallag, continues here his long and ambitious journey, dedicated to the restoration and preservation of a unique musical trend that flourished for centuries and thus is revived and available for nowadays listeners.
