Na właśnie wydaną płytę Steve'a Lacy'ego składają dwa albumy nagrane we Włoszech w 1965 i 1966 roku - nigdy wcześniej nie wydany na płycie kompaktowej "Sortie" oraz długi czas niedostępne "Disponsability". Nie są to albumy zupełnie free (pierwsza płyta oparta jest w całości na kompozycjach Lacy'ego, druga - oprócz autorskich - to kompozycje autorstwa Monka, Cecila Taylora i Paula Bleya), chociaż bez dwóch zdań umieszczam ją w przegródce "free jazz". Nie ma tu bowiem ścisłych aranżacji - jest temat będący podstawądosyć sobodnej improwizacji. Ten zespół jednak ma moć, potrafi rozpędzić się gwałtownie, co świadczy o dużym porozumieniu tak wewnątrz kwartetu ("Sortie"), jak i tria ("Disponsability"). Sam Lacy najciekawiej wypada, gdy nie krępuje go obecność partnera, gdy zawłaszcza dla siebie całą solowo-melodyczną część kompozycji - wtedy to nagranie staje się naprawdę niezwykłym, chociaż i duetom z Enriciem Ravą nie można odmówić pasji i czaru. Żelazna pozycja dla tych, którzy kochają free jazz, jak i dla, co chcą dopiero się w nim rozsmakować..."

Two rare complete original LPs by Steve Lacy recorded in Italy, Sortie (which appears here on CD for the first time ever) and Disposability. Both albums focus on free jazz. Sortie is a quartet excursion with trumpeter Enrico Rava sharing the front line. The long unavailable Disposability presents Lacy with the same bassist and drummer as Sortie in a trio set that includes a mixture of original tunes with compositions by Thelonious Monk, as well as a song by Cecil Taylor and another by Carla Bley. Includes inside booklet.

This edition presents two rarely heard Italian LPs made by the celebrated soprano saxophonist Steve Lacy during the mid-60s. Sortie has never previously appeared on CD while Disposability was only released on a long unavailable CD after its initial LP issue. Both albums present Lacy backed by the same (pianoless) rhythm section consisting of Kent Carter on bass and Aldo Romano on drums, with trumpeter Enrico Rava added on Sortie. Recorded within a period of nearly a month (Disposability was taped in Rome on December 21-22, 1965 and Sortie in Milan on February 7, 1966), these albums (and Sortie above all) present Lacy's freer side. Disposability also has a free side, as heard on Lacy's four original tunes and on those by Cecil Taylor and Carla Bley. However, the three tunes by Lacy's idol Thelonious Monk mark a kind of contrast, as the saxophonist doesn't allow himself to stray too far from the chord structures of the compositions. The lack of a piano on these tunes originally written by a pianist is particularly interesting.'
