Sam Cooke was an American singer and is considered one of the "fathers" of soul. He enjoyed the most success as an RCA artist, with his first single "Chain Gang" becoming one of his best-known songs. Other hits such as "Cupid", "Sad Mood", "Bring It On Home To Me", "Another Saturday Night", "Twisting The Night Away" and "Wonderful World" followed.
Like most other R&B singers of his time, Cooke released almost exclusively singles. Sam Cooke was shot dead under unexplained circumstances in a Californian hotel at the age of 33. A number of posthumous releases followed, many of which became hits, including the protest song "A Change Is Gonna Come". In the 1980s, his song "Wonderful World" became immensely popular once again through its use in advertising. Sam Cooke was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1986.
