"Trees On Wheels" to pochwała płynnej, nieprzewidywalnej narracji. Trójka improwizatorów nawet w szczególnie intensywnych spiętrzeniach wie, że ostatecznym ratunkiem jest melodia. Bez względu czy podawana przez klawiszowca, saksofonistę czy wystukiwana na poszerzonym zestawie perkusyjnym. Ptzy tym album ma zniewaljący, dark ambientowy posmak z solidnym komponentem z lekka psychodelicznego kwasu.

Tak recenzent Culture Jazz napisał po koncertcie z 19.03.2025:
"Muzyczne opowieści zbudowane są wokół kompozycji Bera i płynnie splecione z momentami kolektywnej improwizacji. Trio wyczarowało serię organicznych muzycznych wrażeń — idealnych do spokojnej refleksji lub co najmniej pewnego rodzaju melodyjnej medytacji. Z tego wyłoniły się pejzaże dźwiękowe związane przywodzące na myśl rzeczne nurty, do nieskończenie małego przepływu czasu, nagle uwolnionego od jego zwykłych ograniczeń. Powściągliwa gęstość muzyki nie powstrzymała mnie przed odczuwaniem, z krystaliczną klarownością, mnogości dźwiękowych detali, które przekuły się w nasyconą mocnym przesłaniem opowieść".

Tony Malaby, Jozef Dumoulin and Samuel Ber explore music made of flow, pulses, textures, angles, memory, rotations, distances, intentions, proliferations, territories, speeds, changes of scale, intervals. Their taste for playfulness pushes them to redefine the music at every moment.

Samuel Ber’s compositions are similar to synecdoche: the imaginary territories they offer to the trio are in reality only fragments of a larger and deeper vision that the trio, through improvisation, creates, reveals and plays with in real time.Their new album was recorded at three different locations: at the music festival Jazzdor in Strasbourg, in a studio and at a private venue, both in Paris.
“The concert in Paris wasn’t supposed to be recorded, but an hour before it started, I had a sort of intuition that I should ask a friend to bring a recorder, so I did. The other recordings were done professionally, so the third one has a different sound color and quality. As with the first album we released, I had a lot of fun editing them together, switching between the three sources and manipulating the sound a tiny bit. Concerning the overall structure, I think my approach was more closely related to movie editing", says Samuel Ber, who wrote all the compositions.
With confidence, openness and patience, the trio navigates through composed and improvised sections. The result has the dynamic of a never-ending stream ofconsciousness, as a reviewer at the Klaeng Festival wrote in March 2024.

Jozef Dumoulin (piano)
Jozef Dumoulin, born in 1975, is a Belgian pianist and composer known for his inventive work in the realm of contemporary jazz and improvised music. Dumoulin's exploration of extended piano techniques and electronic elements contributes to a forward-thinking sound that challenges conventional notions of jazz piano.

Samuel Ber (drums)
Samuel Ber (1995) is a Belgian drummer, composer and improviser.
With his projects Pentadox, Malaby/Dumoulin/Ber, the new duo with guitarist Todd Neufeld, and the interdisciplinary and entirely improvised performance Scaphandres Party, he seeks creative ways to access a state of collective flow where individual voices, concepts and realities coexist and merge.
He plays with KARTET, Benoît Delbecq & The Multiplexers, Michaël Attias European Quartet, Susanne Abbuehl, Laurent Blondiau’s Mâäk & MikMâäk, Bo Van Der Werf’s Mantra Magnets, Soet Kempeneer’s Dream Tree, Richard Bonnet and Sol Léna—Schroll’s Der Baum trio; and has performed with Petter Eldh, Otis Sandsjö, Matt Mitchell, Eve Risser, Lotte Anker, Guillaume Orti, Marc Ducret, Magic Malik, Antonin-Tri Hoang, Sylvaine Hélary, Matthieu Michel, Kris Defoort, Nicolas Thys...

Tony Malaby (saxophone)
Originally from Tucson, Arizona, Tony Malaby has been permanently based in New York since 1995 and has been a member of many notable jazz groups including Charlie Haden’s Liberation Orchestra, Paul Motian's Electric Bebop Band, Mark Helias' Open Loose, Fred Hersch's quintet and Walt Whitman project, Michell Portal's Birdwatcher, various projects with Daniel Humair and bands led by Mario Pavone, Tim Berne, Chris Lightcap, Kris Davis, Angelica Sanchez, Michael Attias and Marty Ehrlich.
His debut cd "Sabino"(Arabesque) made the NY Times and Philadelphia City Paper's top ten jazz lists for 2000. He has a brand new release: "Tamarindo" with bassist William Parker and Nasheet Waits on drums. It is available on the Clean Feed label. His other releases include: "Adobe" available on Sunnyside in the US, featuring Drew Gress and Paul Motian; Apparitions" on the Songlines label featuring Tom Rainey, Mike Sarin, and Drew Gress; and "Alive in Brooklyn Vol. 1 and 2" featuring Angelica Sanchez and Tom Rainey.
Tony leads several projects of his own including: APPARITIONS featuring: Drew Gress, Tom Rainey and Mike Sarin. The Tony Malaby CELLO TRIO, featuring Chicago cellist Fred Lonberg-Holm and percussionist John Hollenbeck. The quartet PALOMA RECIO(Loud Dove) with Ben Monder, Eivind Opsvik and Nashhet Waits. The trio TAMARINDO featuring bassist William Parker and Nasheet Waits on drums. Tony co-leads the Malaby Sanchez Rainey Trio.
DownBeat's "80 Coolest Things in Jazz" article said "[Malaby] is a formidably accomplished soprano and tenor saxophonist with enviable tone and an endless font of compelling ideas [who] steers his music away from perfection"
JazzTimes called him "a hero of today's improvised music scene."
