Third Set is a live album by hard bop jazz pianist Cedar Walton. He joined Art. Blakey's Jazz Messengers in 1961, and played alongside Freddie Hubbard and Wayne Shorter. During the 1960s, he accompanied Abbey Lincoln and made records with Lee Morgan. As leader of the group Soundscapes in the mid-1970s, he experimented with funk rhythms and the electric piano. His band Eastern Rebellion was comprised of a rotating cast that included saxophonists Clifford Jordan, George Col an, and Bob Berg, bassist Sam Jones and drummer Billy Higgins.
"Third Set" was recorded in Denmark in 1977 and released on the Danish SteepleChase label.

SteepleChase Records is a jazz record company and label based in Copenhagen, Denmark. SteepleChase was founded in 1972 by Nils Winther.


The Penguin Guide to Jazz commented that the album "sounds a little ragged".
