Po długiej trasie koncertowej, po rejonach raczej rzadko odwiedzanych przez jazzowych muzyków - po Alasce i Pacyfiku Północno-Zachodnim, kwartet dopasowanych do siebie instrumentalistów nagrał nowy materiał. Zbudowana z wielkim wyrafinowaniem, klarownie tkana narracja i dynamicznie rozwijająca się konstrukcja kompozycji daje wiele przyjemności. Jak muzycy wspominają w wywiadach, jednym z szczególnie ważnych momentów był koncert w Hallgrímskirkja w Reykjavíku na Islandii, gdzie premierowo wykonali "The Icelander" na bis. Jak sami mówią energia tego miejsca, fantastyczna reakcja publiczności pozostawiły trwały ślad w ich świadomości, który rezonuje na całym albumie.
Każdy utwór opowiada osobną historię — wspomnienie miejsca, osoby lub emocji. Niezależnie od tego, czy jest to błoga poświata księżycowej nocy, porywający rytm fal oceanu, czy cisza Islandii przed Bożym Narodzeniem, kolejne kompozycje otwierają drzwi do tych wspomnień.
Czterech doskonale reagujących na siebie facetów, bez neoromantycznego ciepełka i postmodernistycznych igraszek pewną ręką prowadzą nas do świata pełnego drobnych znaczeń, impresji i uniesień, oferując rodzaj pojednania z nieodgadnioną naturą. Stosunkowo prosta struktura muzyki, ale bardzo sugestywnie zaaranżowana zagrana została brawurowo!

Songs Inspired by People and Places is a project born from some of the most inspiring experiences of my life. It has been a joy to work with such an extraordinary ensemble—my long-time duo partner, Jan von Klewitz, and the legendary rhythm section of Peter Erskine and Bob Magnusson. Together, we’ve created music that reflects the landscapes, people, and moments that have shaped me.
This album was recorded after a memorable tour through Alaska and the Pacific Northwest, and those breathtaking regions undoubtedly influenced the music. One particularly transformative moment was our recital at Hallgrímskirkja in Reykjavík, Iceland, where we performed “The Icelander” as an encore. The energy of that place and its connection to the music left a lasting impression that resonates throughout the album.
Each piece tells a story—a memory of a place, a person, or a feeling. Whether it’s the tranquility of a moonlit night, the exhilarating rhythm of ocean waves, or the stillness of Iceland before Christmas, these songs offer glimpses into the moments that inspire me.
I am deeply grateful to James Linahon, whose technical expertise and friendship over the years have brought this music to life with exceptional clarity and warmth.
