Czerpiąc z afrokubańksich tradycji miasta, poprzez Afro Beat Feli Kuti, muzykę Pharoah Sanders i John Coltrane, Steviego Wondera, Elvisa Costello, aż po nowoczesne brzmienie Morning Jacket, Arcade Fire czy the Black Keys.
Editor's Info
At a time when musical streams cross with unprecedented frequency, it is important to remember that throughout its history New Orleans has been the point where sounds and cultures from around the world have come together, mixed and reappeared as something new, transformed by the inimitable spirit and joie de vivre of Crescent City
Nowhere is this idea embodied more vividly than by the Preservation Hall Jazz Band, which has been holding up the torch of New Orleans music for more than 50 years and at the same time continues it with enthusiasm. "So It Is" (2017) finds the classical sound of the Preservation Hall Jazz Band enlivened by a series of fresh influences, not least the band's life-changing trip to Cuba in 2015, and a visit to the island so important to the development of jazz and New Orleans culture in general was long in the making when President Obama's diplomatic opening suddenly allowed for a wider journey than originally seemed possible. Producer David Sitek, one of the founders of the art-rock innovators TV On The Radio, who has led projects including Kelis, The Yeah Yeah Yeah Yeahs and Santigold, offered both a sharp modern perspective and a deep respect for the band's history
Now available again on vinyl and CD via Sub Pop, which signed the Preservation Hall Jazz Band in 2018 and will soon release new music from the band.
