Three-time Grammy® Award-winning blues legend Bobby Rush and five-time Grammy® nominated singer/songwriter/guitarist Kenny Wayne Shepherd reunite for a very special collection of new blues songs co-written and recorded by the two artists.
Rush and Shepherd, who were born 44 years apart, teamed up for the recording of YOUNG FASHIONED WAYS at Royal Studios in Memphis, Tennessee. The album features 10 tracks with Shepherd's trademark guitar and Rush's soulful vocals, rhythm guitar and harmonica. A three-time Grammy® winner for "Best Traditional Blues Album" for "Porcupine Meat," "Rawer than Raw" and "All My Love For You" from 2024, the 91-year-old Rush is also a 16-time Blues Music Awards winner (with 56 career nominations) and has been inducted into the Blues Hall of Fame, Mississippi Musicians Hall of Fame and Rhythm & Blues Hall of Fame.
In addition to his five Grammy® nominations, Shepherd has received two Billboard Music Awards, two Orville H. Gibson Awards recognizing the world's best guitarists, a Blues Music Award and a Keeping The Blues Alive Award. He has also achieved eight Top 10 singles on the Billboard Mainstream Rock Charts and shares the record with B.B. King and Eric Clapton for the longest-running albums on the Billboard Blues Charts with his album "Trouble Is...".
Shepherd says, "It's not every day you find albums that are so 100 percent and authentic." He continues, "When Bobby and I collaborate on a project, of course our age difference is part of the initial conversation and makes for good headlines, but at the end of the day, he's an incredibly talented musician and an amazing human being who loves the same kind of music I do. We started playing together and suddenly age had nothing to do with us. We spoke the same language and there was an acceptance that we were really on the same page with the blues and came from the same place spiritually, musically and of course geographically."
Rush adds: "I think we both had something to prove with 'Young Fashioned Ways'. There was a moment when I walked through the hallways of Royal and burst into tears because, as an older man who has spent many years keeping up with trends, I appreciated so much that he let me through that door to do what I knew I could do. Just like music keeps me young, I learn something new every day. It's like he (Kenny) said, this kind of album is a rare thing, and when it comes to the blues these days, you can't get much better than we've done. Nobody my age does it like that anymore, and nobody Kenny's age can do the old-style blues better. We're both looking forward to playing a lot of shows together to support that."
