A killer group from Kenya - Matata founded by Jeik Kalunga Loksa in Nairobi's "Brilliant Club" in 1963. In the early 1970s Matata moved to Great Britain. Their third single, "I Feel Funky", went to No 3 in the Black Music chart. They recorded two albums in London UK in the early 70s.
Borrowing from the JB's with tough brass, crisp funky bass and guitar riffs, sax solos and throaty vocals.
Their blend of African roots and American soul really took the group by storm!
Funk, soul, modal jazz … and the fantastic influence from James Brown!
