Miles Davis' quintet was formed in 1955 and is widely regarded as one of the greatest combos in jazz history. Each of its members were individual creative forces that could have easily been leaders. 'Round About Midnight was Miles' first album for the Columbia label, and he titled it after the Thelonious Monk tune that had earned him great success at the Newport Jazz Festival that same year. This would be a landmark album for Davis and one of the few true classics in the history of jazz.
