Editor's info:
"A Phase Selector soundtrack begins with drum and bass every time, the interaction of having bass and drum hit tape at the same instant is important to us." - Phase Selector Sound

Influences: King Tubby, Ras Michael, Prince Far I, Alpha & Omega, Clash, Bad Brains and H.R., Bob Marley, Peter Tosh, Burning Spear, Subhumans.

As most rock and roll bands started in someone's garage or basement or living room, Phase Selector Sound are two (ex?) punk rockers working out of their ad hoc home studios (heavily influenced by Radio Shack equipment). They create powerful roots dub that is hypnotic, mesmerizing and trance-inducing. Very much in keeping with ROIR's long history of releasing the absolute best in dub by such artists as Lee Perry, Niney, Mikey Dread, Mad Professor, Black Uhuru, Badawi, Bill Laswell, Dub Syndicate, Ras Michael, Scientist, Yabby You, Oku Onuora --- and the list goes on!

In reviewing Phase Selector Sound demo tapes, Chuck Foster, eminent reggae historian and reviewer for Reggae Beat, said: "Plenty of bubbling guitar and synth, booming bass and drums - it's experimental and roots, underground and in the pocket. Dub to the max in the tradition of King Tubby. They're programmed to sound like the 'real' dub from the golden age of same, as filtered through the later spacier manifestations from the UK, including Jah Shaka and others on the new frontier."-The Beat Vol. 17, No. 6, 1998

"Digidub derived from Roots Radicals multiplied by formulas provided by Scientist, Chemist and the Mad Professor. As good as the majors."- Chuck Foster, The Beat Vol. 19, No. 3

Phase Selector Sound is an amazing dub posse who usher in a new era for dub ears. They take the next step forward from Adrian Sherwood, Alpha & Omega, Wordsound I Powa and Zion Train. "When Jon Landau said of Bruce Springsteen 'I have seen the future of rock and roll', the backlash from this extravagant statement initially harmed Bruce's career. So, I will not say this about Phase Selector Sound and the future of the new roots dub, but they are certainly establishing their position as major players in this field with this step-forward release."-Neil Cooper, President, ROIR

"YOU HEAR THE BLATANT REGGAE INFLUENCE IN PUNK AND NEW WAVE." PHASE SELECTOR SOUND

"Well, if your rave doesn't have this thumping away, your rave is nowhere. Latest and greatest in experimental dub that goes way beyond standard issue headache music. Far beyond music to exasperate parents by, this set opens the cortex and goes to the center of the mind, millenium style. Killer set for children of the heavy metal generation."- MIDWEST RECORD RECAP

"..The important thing isn't who they are, but the quality and weight of their dubwize reggae grooves, both of which are substantial. ...most of this program is both suprisingly original and still Faithful to the traditions of classical (i.e. early 70's) Jamaican dub." - ALL-MUSIC GUIDE
