On the 7th of August 2012 the Brazilian singer and composer Caetano Veloso celebrates his 70th birthday and 45 years with Universal/Polygram. Undoubtedly one of the most important artists in Brazilian musical history, Caetano has consistently innovated and pushed musical boundaries ranging from Tropicalismo to his current guitar fueled power trio Banda Ce.
To celebrate Caetano's birthday and honor his achievements, A Tribute to Caetano Veloso featuring tracks recorded by a host of international and Brazilian artists.
Caetano is one of the most respected international singers, with more than 45 albums and 5 Latin Grammys. A musician, singer, composer, artist, writer, film maker and political activist, he was a political exile from Brazil in the early 1970's and recorded his classic album 'Transa' in London. He has recorded songs in Portuguese, English, Spanish and Italian and has songs in the film soundtracks of Michelangelo Antonioni, Eros, Pedro Almodavar's 'Hable con Ella' and the song 'Burn it Blue' from 'Frida' which he performed at the 75th Oscars.
Regarded as 'one of the greatest songwriters of the century' (New York Times), Caetano's work is frequently seen on the same level as artists like Lennon, Dylan and Bob Marley.
