1989: After four years studying violin, begins violaessons with Michel Michalakakos. 1996: Enters Jean Sulem's class at the Paris Conservatoire. 1999: After graduating from the Conservatoire, is awarded Fulbright and Lavoisier Scholarships to study with Jesse Levine at Yale University for two years. 2000: Awarded First Prize at Maurice Vieux Competition in Paris, meets Tabea Zimmermann, who will become his teacher in Berlin a year later. 2001: First Prize at William Primrose Competition in Chicago. 2003: First Prize at the Young Concert Artists Auditions in New York, debuts in New York, Washington and Boston. 2004: First Prize at ARD Competition in Munich.
and key concerts ... 2002: First duo concert with Tabea Zimmermann at the Feldkirch Festival, in a programme including George Benjamin's Viola, Viola, after the concert, the composer asks them to record the work. 2003, 2004, 2006: Regularly invited by Gidon Kremer to give chamber concerts at the Lockenhaus, Kronberg and Basel Festivals. 2005/06: Chosen by the Cité de la Musique in Paris for the 'Rising Stars' tour, giving recitals in the foremost European concert halls and Carnegie Hall in New York with Markus Hadulla, his regular pianist for some years now. 25 January 2006: Mozart's Sinfonia Concertante with Frank Peter Zimmermann, Louis Langrée and the Orchestre de Liege on the 250th anniversary of the composer's birth. 2006: After two years broadcasting in England as 'BBC New Generation Artist', he was given an Award by the prestigious Borletti-Buitoni. 2005, 2006: Makes solo debuts in Paris, Berlin, London, and Vienna, in Leipzig with the Gewandhaus Orchestra, and tours with La Chambre Philharmonique under Emmanuel Krivine, while continuing to share his passion for chamber music with Renaud and Gautier Capuçon, Christian Poltera, Nicholas Angelich, the Quatuor Ebene, Bertrand Chamayou, Emmanuel Pahud, Paul Meyer, and Eric Le Sage.
Antoine Tamestit plays a viola made by Étienne Vatelot in 1999, with a bow made by Sylvain Bigot in 2004.
