The Lugano Festival with the Progetto of pianist Martha Argerich is a highlight of the international music scene: concerts with one of the greatest artistic personalities, side by side with hand-picked young talent, captured in recordings that have made recording history.
The year 2016 brought two anniversaries: firstly, the Progetto turned 15 years old; secondly, Martha Argerich celebrated her 75th birthday. The diversity of the program, which is reflected on the three CDs of recordings from 2016, is greater than ever: in addition to solo piano and chamber music works, last year's documents from Lugano contain three concertante-symphonic highlights!
Beethoven's Choral Fantasy and Maurice Ravel's Piano Concerto in G major with Martha Argerich as soloist and the Orchestra della Svizzera italiana are certainly at the top of the list. There is also a recording of Ferruccio Busoni's Violin Concerto - with Renaud Capuçon in absolute world class. Ravel's Gaspard de la nuit with Argerich and Prélude à l'après-midi d'un faune (in Debussy's four-hand version with Martha Argerich and Stephen Kovacevich) characterize the impressionistic focus of the programme.
Brahms' Horn Trio, with which Nicolas Angelich and Renaud Capuçon, together with David Guerrier, continue their long-standing Brahms cultivation, is another highlight from Lugano 2016.
