Sir Charles Mackerras directs the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment in performances of Schubert's fifth, eighth and ninth symphonies. The 'unfinished' eighth is here performed in a completion by Brian Newbould, making use of the Entr'acte music from Rosamunde. The highly acclaimed recording of the ninth, one of the earliest recordings to be released on the Veritas label, was the first to be played on period instruments.
