Zig-Zag Territoires supports the talent of Amandine Beyer with three recordings launched in the space of a year: the Bach Chaconne and sonatas by C. P. E. Bach alongside Edna Stern, and now these works by Jean-Ferry Rebel with L'Assemblée des Honnestes Curieux. A project with violin concertos by J. S. Bach is in preparation for 2007.
Amandine Beyer and L'Assemblée offer us here a selection of premiere recordings of Rebel which reveal a violinist-composer influenced both by the music of the Grand Siècle of Louis XIV - with its dance repertoire and its music for viol and lute - and by Italian virtuosity.
'Rebel has indeed imbued [his sonatas] with Italian genius and fire, but he has had the good taste and the diligence to temper these with French sagacity and tenderness, and has abstained from those terrifying and monstrous cadenzas that so delight the Italians.' Lecerf de la Viéville.
Here is what the press had to say about Amandine Beyer's recording of J. S. Bach's Chaconne BWV 1004: 'Majestic, gossamer, hypnotic. Perfect in every inflection of the phrasing, which the young soloist sculpts with a sense of space' (Pierre Gervasoni, Le Monde), and the sonatas of C. P. E. Bach with Edna Stern: 'The musicians often give the impression they are improvising, a characteristic of the music of C. P. E. Bach which only becomes apparent with the freest and most inspired of his interpreters' (Classica).
L'Assemblée des Honnestes Curieux will be guest artists at the Folle Journée de Nantes in January 2006.
