The flute plays an important role amongst all the instruments celebrated by il Prete Rosso in his concerti. All evidence points to the instrument concerned being the recorder, given that it was still extremely popular in Italy at that time. The single publication of concerti that were not composed for the violin (opus X) was marked by the composer as being for the flute, as were the Concerti da Camera, in which the instrument rivals the violin, oboe and bassoon in virtuosity. The magnificent renderings of Frédéric de Roos and La Pastorella were previously separately released in 1999 (op. X) and 2001 (Concerti da camera), they were to gain many international awards, such as the Giorgio Cini Foundation (Venice) yearly award for the best Vivaldi recording in 2002. These two jewels are now gathered in one double CD at special price.
