This SACD remaster from Praga's Reminiscences series features pianist Sviatoslav Richter playing solo works by Schumann. This recording of Schumann's Etudes symphoniques marked the first time he had played the piece in over twenty years, and his recording of the Fantasy Op.17 was Richter's first in thirty years. The utmost interpreter of the tormented and introverted spirit of Schumann, Richter identified profoundly with the composer, rejecting the common association of his works with a dream-like, unstable romantic world, and with the frustrations of adolescence. Instead, he preferred to focus on the heroic, passionate and tragic aspects of the composer's music.
