First ECM recording from the Leonidas Kavakos, increasingly regarded as one of the most outstanding violinists of his generation. Born in Athens to a musical family with strong traditions in folk music, Kavakos has been a force to be reckoned with on the international scene since 1988 when he won the Paganini competition. Beyond his impeccable technique, he has been widely praised for his ability to get at the essence, the heart and the meaning of a composition, as in these performances of Ravel and Enescu. Splendid playing also from Hungarian pianist Péter Nagy.
