Rekonstrukcja brzmienia szesnastowiecznego zespołu instrumentów dętych jest wyzwaniem dla każdego muzyka, który chce by muzyka brzmiała jak dawniej, ale też by interesowała współczesnych odbiorców. Istnieje bowiem bardzo wiele pytań odnośnie jej wykonywania na które nie umiemy znaleźć odpowiedzi. Wiele rzeczy - technik wykonawczych, ale i detali instrumentów - jest nam nieznanych i chyba już niemożliwych do odtworzenia. Ale nie rozumiemy też kontekstu historycznego i społecznego w jakim muzyka ta powstawała.

Jednak rękopis numer 975 z Manuel de Falla Library (EGR-975) zapewnia nam doskonałą okazję do nauki i lepszego poznania muzyki minstreli i zespół dętych w mieście Granada w drugiej połowie 16 wieku, ukazując nam zarówno specyficzne geograficzne uwarunkowania jak i kulturowy kontekst związany z czasem, w którym powstawał. Dzięki temu rękopisowi zyskaliśmy bardzo wiele informacji o tym, że praca i życie wielu muzyków było związanych z Kościołem lub instytucjami z nim powiązanymi, poznaliśmy rodzaje instrumentów na których grali, a nawet ceremonialne i praktyczne szczegóły, gdzie wykonywane poszczególne kompozycje. I jakie były to utwory. Muzycy Ensemble La Danseyre by jeszcze głębiej zrozumieć kontekst epoki badali także porównawczo źródła z innych miast ówczesnej Hiszpanii (Sevilla, Kordoba, Toledo, etc.) i dopiero wtedy owoc swych badań, dociekań i prób postanowili zarejestrować na płycie. Owocem jest fantastyczny i zróżnicowany zbiór nagrań najwybitniejszych kompozytorów epoki, jak i tych zupełnie dotychczas nieznanych, których muzycy odkrywali w toku swoich studiów. Reconstructing the sound of a 16th century minstrel ensemble is a real challenge for any musician who wants to make the music come alive for contemporary audiences. After over four centuries, there are a large number of unanswered questions regarding many musical matters that seem to be almost impossible to reconstruct satisfactorily without making us feel that it is still foreign to us, imprecise and strongly subjective. However, Manuscript 975 in the Manuel de Falla Library (EGr-975) provides us with a great opportunity to study and become better acquainted with minstrel music in the city of Granada in the second half of the 16th century, giving us both a specific geographical and time-related context in which to work. Thanks to this, we now have information on how many minstrels there were (when they were connected to church- related institutions), the types of instruments they played and even some ceremonial and practical details about where they performed or at what points in the Divine Office they actually played. The study of extant documentary sources from the second half of the 16th century in Granada-- as well as other contemporary centers (Sevilla, Jaén, Córdoba, Toledo, etc.), and in a few cases, references to 17th century musical practices-- allows us to get a somewhat more precise understanding of the musical universe in which these musical ensembles worked and the specific role they played in Granada.
