Editor's info:
Pisendel & Dresden contains previously unpublished virtuoso violin music of the first half of the 18th century from the holdings of the Sächsischen Landesbibliothek. Johann Georg Pisendel was the outstanding concertmaster of the Dresdner Hofkapelle, which at that time was probably the most famous orchestra in Europe. His two violin sonatas present a special challenge for violinists and they are a most valuable addition to the repertoire. The works of Heinichen, W. F. Bach and Hasse recorded on this CD convey an impression of the musical style prevalent in Dresden and the changes it underwent on the threshold from the baroque to the pre-classical era.
