AS GOD COMMANDS is the excellent new film by Academy Award-winning film director Gabriele Salvatores, based on the bestselling novel by Niccolo' Ammaniti. A dark drama centered around an 11 year-old boy and his neo-Nazi alcoholic father, who are both outcasts in their suburban town. The film stars Filippo Timi (Rino Zena), Alvaro Caleca (Cristiano Zena), Elio Germano (Corrado aka Quattro Formaggi), Angelica Leo (Fabiana), and Fabio De Luigi (Trecca).

[...]"There was never a list of frames or a story board. The film was, instead, made with multiple sequence plans which then were interrupted and cross-assembled during the editing. Each scene was shot, nevertheless, from beginning to end without interruption. I asked the musicians, the band Mokadelic, not to write music for the movie. I asked them for songs inspired by the film and its characters. And to have the music ready before the film was to be shot, in order to be influenced by the music and not use it to "dress" the film. To shoot the film with the music, concrete music, which you can tell is being played by someone. But with no vocals, without words. That which remains of rock music after the flood. It would be nice that this film's narration continue to burn, but without ever consuming itself. Like rock music [...].

[...] Non c'e mai stato un elenco di inquadrature o uno story board. Il film e stato, invece, realizzato con piu piani sequenza che poi sono stati interrotti e incrociati in montaggio, girando comunque dall'inizio alla fine le singole scene senza interrompere la ripresa. Ho chiesto ai musicisti, il gruppo romano Mokadelic, di non scrivere la musica "per" il film. Ho chiesto di avere dei brani ispirati al film e ai suoi personaggi e di avere questa musica prima delle riprese. Per lasciarci influenzare dalla musica e non usarla per "vestire" meglio il film. Girare con la musica. Musica concreta, che si sente che e suonata da qualcuno. Ma senza voce che canta, senza parole. Quel che resta del rock dopo il diluvio. Sarebbe bello che questo film avesse un livello narrativo che continua a bruciare, ma non si consuma mai. Come il rock[...].
