A previously unknown concert by Bud Powell recorded at a club in Switzerland in 1962. Although Bud's playing had become somewhat erratic, this was one of the rare times in which everything seemed to fit just right. Two outstanding duets by Bud with tenor saxophonist Johnny Griffin, recorded in Paris in 1960, have been added as a bonus.

'This was an informal concert at a nightclub in Geneva called the Hot Club. The best of these numbers stand among Bud's best recordings from any period. Bud must have been enjoying rare good health at the time of this Swiss session. Bud Powell left for Europe in 1959, for what was originally scheduled to be a short tour. However, Powell would remain for an extended period in the Old Continent, interrupted briefly in 1964, when he returned to the States for a final trip (he died in the States in 1966). A previous Swiss concert in Lausanne, taped on January 31, 1962, has also been preserved and was recently reissued on CD. This release marks the first time that the Geneva concert of February 1 is available. Both performances mark a rare period of return to form in Bud's playing, as noted by Carl Smith in his book Bouncing with Bud: 'There are ten trio tracks with several spoken introductions by Bud, probably directed more to his sidemen than to the audience. Bud must have been enjoying rare good health at the time of these two Swiss sessions. There is no holding back. The up-tempo numbers are played at top speed and, as if to show that the master is back, Bud includes many glittering runs.
