"Fractal Beauty" to płyta, która skłania do kontemplacji i refleksji. Narracja prowadzona jest harmonijnie, a muzycy sięgają po bardzo subtelne muzyczne narzędzia. To co jednak odróżnia ją od innych podobnych nagrań, to obecne w niej stałe napięcie, które jest konsekwencją szerokiej amplitudy dynamicznej i fakturalnej całości. Dzięki temu słuchamy dwunastu kompozycji rozpisanych na akordeon/bandoneon, wiolonczelę i klarnet basowy/saksofon sopranowy/klarnet, ale przede wszystkim napisanych na żywe emocje.

Chorwacka wiolonczelistka Asja Valcic i austriacki akordeonista Klaus Paier współpracują ze sobą od kilkunastu lat. Już debiutancki album duetu "A Deux" (ACT Music, 2009) zdobył tytuł płyty miesiąca w magazynach STERE0 i FONOFORUM. Po niej następowały kolejne, świetnie przyjmowane płyty, na których zbiegały się różne gatunkowe inspiracje, od klasyki przez tango, world music po jazz. Do nagrania "filmowej" płyty "Cinema Scenes" (ACT Music, 2018) zaprosili kontrabasistę i perkusistę.

Marek Dusza w Audio o płycie duetu Klaus Paier/Asja Valcic "Silk Road" napisał "Klaus Paier i Asja Valcic tworzą fascynujący duet". Niemiecki JAZZTHING chwalił zespół „jak ponadczasowo i ponadgatunkowo duet tworzy muzykę, opierając się na jazzie. Słuchanie siebie nawzajem, komunikowanie się, łączenie na nowo pomysłów innych”. Aplauz wygłosił „The Guardian” za „porywającą grę”, a „Paris Move” zobaczył „zaproszenie dla słuchacza do przekraczania granic”.

Na swoim debiutanckim albumie dla oficyny SKIP, zatytułowanym „Fractal Beauty” duet Klaus Paier/Asja Valcic został poszerzony o klarnecistę i saksofonistę Geralda Preinfalka, muzyka, na co dzień współpracującego z Vienna Art Orchestra oraz Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra. Klarnet basowy, saksofon sopranowy i klarnet w plastyczny sposób rozszerzają i tak już oryginalne środowisko brzmieniowe zespołu.

„Fractal Beauty” sama w sobie jest niezwykle poetycka, poruszająca wyobraźnię, odkrywająca nowe światy. Wiolonczela, akordeon i klarnet basowy wspaniale współbrzmią, tworząc jednorodny organizm, operujący gdzieś pomiędzy stylami i kulturami.

In terms of its dynamics, virtuosity and fragility, the kaleidoscope of audiophonics devised on “Fractal Beauty” is a bold blueprint on the path to perfection in sound that offers a balance of freedom and form, complex music and compelling melodies, suspense and release, and above all the purest of poetry. In the process, Paier/Valcic/Preinfalk contribute on an equal footing as composers to take listeners along on a breathless journey from Valcic’s drivingly arabesque “Trismo” to Paier’s buoyantly lighthearted “Major Waltz” and on to Preinfalk’s multifaceted “3 Views”. Highlighted with wonderful cello voicings by Asja Valcic, “Into the Spring” meanders between melancholy classic and the levity of swing while featuring Klaus Paier on bandoneon. On “Mosaic”, it’s the broad spectrum of tones that Gerald Preinfalk elicits from the bass clarinet and the contrasting ebb and flow from Paier’s accordion that impress: a thrilling joie de vivre, though the silent moments equally take your breath away. “Remember the Tango”, another composition by Paier, evolves from a delicate melody into a high-spirited dance that allows the virtuoso talent these 3 protagonists display to shine at its brightest. The enchanting title track “Fractal Beauty” is situated in the classical cosmos and breathes calmness and serenity. Not a bit less poetic is Gerald Preinfalk’s “Not Larsson”, a contrast to the scurrying instruments and chasing lines portrayed in “Mosaic” above. On “Just Wonderful”, the audiophonic accents are set once again by the bandoneon. At the end, “Gaia’s Prayer” proffers the concluding masterpiece by Asja Valcic to simply melt away on. A grand musical array that effortlessly combines jazz, contemporary and classical music with today’s world music. Forceful and yet so fragile in its components, played to sheet music yet with plenty of room for first-rate improvisation and sparkling soloist highlights, in this trio unbridled passion meets subtlety in an unparalleled fashion, a feast of emotions for the inquisitive listener.

Das auf „Fractal Beauty“ entworfene Kaleidoskop von Klängen ist in seiner Dynamik, Virtuosität und Zerbrechlichkeit ein mutiger Entwurf auf dem Weg zum vollkommenen Klang, der Balance von Form und Freiheit, komplexer Musik und bezwingenden Melodien, Spannung und Entspannung bietet und vor allem Poesie pur. Dabei bringen sich alle Drei auch gleichberechtigt als Komponisten ein und nehmen auf eine atemlose Reise von Valcics arabesk - treibenden „Trismo“ über Paiers beschwingt, heiteren „Major Waltz“ bis zu Preinfalks vielschichtigem „3 Views“ mit. „Into the Spring“, mit wunderbaren Cello - Passagen von Asja Valcic mäandert zwischen melancholischer Klassik und der Leichtigkeit des Swing, es präsentiert Klaus Paier am Bandoneon, in „Mosaic“ beindruckt das breite Spektrum an Tönen, die Gerald Preinfalk der Bass Klarinette entlockt und dem auf- und abschwellenden Akkordeon Paiers entgegensetzt. Das betörende Titelstück „Fractal Beauty“ ist im klassischen Kosmos verortet und atmet Ruhe und Gelassenheit, nicht minder poetisch Gerald Preinfalks „Not Larsson“, wohingegen in „Mosaic“ die Instrumente hin und her wuseln und einander folgen. Auf „Just Wonderful“ werden nochmals Klangakzente durch das Bandoneon gesetzt. Am Ende „Gaia’s Prayer“, das abschließende Meisterwerk zum Dahinschmelzen von Asja Valcic. Ein großartiger musikalischer Bilderbogen, der Jazz, zeitgenössische und klassische Musik souverän mit Weltmusik verbindet. Kraftvoll und doch so fragil in seinen Bestandteilen, notiert und doch mit viel Raum für virtuose Trio-Improvisationen und solistische Glanzpunkte, Leidenschaft und Feinsinn treffen sich in diesem Trio in unvergleichlicher Weise, ein Fest der Emotionen für den neugierigen Hörer.
