This music, rock solid, is almost tactile in our hands. Its performed by the American flutist Robert Dick, the Irish-Swiss pianist John Wolf Brennan and the Italian contrabass player Daniele Patumi. The music is palpable and near, then again abstract, taking a recombinant approach to style that dances beyond written vocabulary. When experienced musicians at this level collaborate, synergies and exchanges result that balance satisfying of expectations (grooves that groove) and breathlessly surprise. Whether it be solos, duos or trios, whether it is free improvisation or precisely composed passages, open melody or deep, rich grooves, one can fly through this hour of music. Where will the next phrases carry us, where the next eloquent pause? So we're back to the top, free associating. But what better can happen as a sign of good music than for it to release the cinema in our heads? Let Aurealis entice us on this tempting voyage. Its worth it.
