Javier Gutiérrez Massó - pianista z Hawany (Diego el Cigala, Concha Buika, Jerry Gonzalez), basista Yasser Morejon Pino (Afrocuban All Stars, Grupo Danson, Roberto Fonseca), zdobywca GRAMMY, perkusista Raul Pineda (Chucho Valdés, Michel Camilo) i pomysłodawca projektu - Eliel Lazo, zapraszany przez gwiazdy jazzu jak Herbie Hancock, Richard Bona, Dianne Reeves, John Pattitucci, Airto Moreira, Dave Holland, Chucho Valdes, Changuito, Wayne Shorter...

Tak złożona supergrupa doświadczonych muzyków, jak ryba w wodzie porusza się po obszarze współczesnej muzyki, z wielką zwinnością rozszerzając ramy latin jazzu, w którym kubańskie rytmy stanowią niepodważalny fundament.

Zarejestrowaną z audiofilską pieczołowitością w Madrycie płytę otwiera kompozycja Eliela Lazo "Havana Chants", to porywająca rumba, w której obrzędowość plemienia Yoruba spotyka się z afro-cuban jazzem. Perlista pianistyka Javiera Gutiérreza Massó jest ozdobą tego utworu. Eliel Lazo i Raul Pineda napędzają całość wartkim rytmem.
"Cromason" autorstwa basisty zespołu Yassera Pino to emocjonalny duet kontrabasu Pino i Eliela Lazo na kongach.
Kolejny utwór to wokalna "La Caminadora", wesoły, wokalny cymesik. "Cuban Style Blues" z kolei, to rasowe fortepianowe trio pewną ręką prowadzone przez Javiera “Caramelo de Cuba” Masso, mistrzowie flemenco nuevo w osobach Jerry'ego Gonzalezs, Enrique Morente, Concha Buika czy Diego el Cigala wiedzą co robią zapraszając go do swoich zespołów.
"Nuevo Amanecer" to magiczna fuzja wolnego bluesa z rytmem cha cha cha. "Para Luisa" to refleksyjne bolero, studzące emocje. "Monday Evening" to z kolei bujne flamenco napędzane kubańskim rytmem, na przedostatniej "Camina y Ve" schodzą się ścieżki afrokubańskiego Makuta z kolektywnym jazzem. Płytę zamyka fortepianowy "Yo Soy", Javier “Caramelo de Cuba” Masso w swoim żywiole, celna "kropka nad i".

Członkowie Cuban Jazz Report z pasją i polotem wzbogacają idiom latin jazzu, okazując się godnymi następcami wielkich mistrzów gatunku jak Duke Ellington, DizzyGillespie, Stan Getz, Gato Barbieri, Chick Corea i Antonio Carlos Jobim.

In early 2014, the Danish-resident conga player and bandleader Eliel Lazo invented a concept that he dubbed ‘Cuban Nights,’ the goal of which was to play and present new and authentic Cuban music on stages including at the Copenhagen JazzHouse Montmartre. After many successful Cuban Nights across the country and around Europe with various now-local and visiting Cuban musicians, Eliel decided to return to the original line-up. So, here’s the dream-team back together again, including legendary pianist Javier “Caramelo de Cuba” Masso (Jerry Gonzalez, Enrique Morente, Diego el Cigala, Concha Buika), bassist Yasser Pino (The Afrocuban All Stars, The Latin Syndicate, Roberto Fonseca), drumming genius and Grammy-winner Raul Pineda (Chucho Valdes, Eric Marienthal, Michel Camilo), and Eliel himself (The Cuban Funkmachine, Michel Camilo, Chucho Valdes, Richard Bona) to collectively turn up the heat.
This time, the music is also immortalized with this record release, recorded in the legendary Musigrama recording studio in Madrid.

Although Eliel has a prominent role, the recordings featuring his bold arrangements and the star-studded band represent much more than just a “showcase” for him. So, enjoy! Here comes Cuban Jazz Report, with the modern sound of contemporary Afro-Cuban music, and a combination of so many scary talents and sounds, it’s dizzying.
