Editor's info:
On “Telecoteco”, Paula Morelenbaum is accompanied once again by her husband, the cellist Jacques Morelenbaum and Ryuichi Sakamoto, but what makes the production so well rounded this time is the number of top-notch Latin American artists, for instance vocalist Marcos Valle, saxophonist and arranger Leo Gandelman and pianist João Donato, along with others sporadically involved, such as David Feldman, Antonio Pinto or Beto Villares. The outcome could be termed a musically sophisticated and at the same time tasteful transformation of the “Musica Popular do Brasil” back in the 1940s and ’50s into up-to-date sounds that work with both acoustic and electronic elements. The story of samba and its ensuing changes into sounds from the Here and Now turns into a listening hour for the history of Brazilian music as exhibited by compositions from such icons as Luiz Bonfa, Johnny Alf or Dori Caymmi, but also through the silky-smooth integration of the George & Ira Gershwin composition “Love Is Here To Stay”.
