Editor's info:
Anita Sings for Oscar (songs 1-11 of the current CD) was originally
released under the title Anita Sings the Most. It contained
eleven tracks that were recorded in a studio in Chicago on January
31, 1957, backed by the legendary pianist Oscar Peterson's
trio featuring guitarist Herb Ellis and bass giant Ray Brown.
Anita's most enduring collaborator, drummer John Poole was also
on hand for the date. By the time of the Sings for Oscar session,
Peterson had already become a star in his own right whose fame
allowed him to pick and choose his few dates as a sideman. The
Pick Yourself Up album (tracks 12-23 of the current CD) were recorded
on three separate dates and in three separate formats. The
first date was recorded on December 18 featuring Anita in a sextet
setting, the second was recorded on December 19 in an 11-piece
band composed mostly of strings, and the third on December 20,
1956, which also featured an 11-piece band with more typical jazz
instrumentation. 2 LPs ON 1 CD!!

***** DOWN BEAT original review:
Anita Sings for Oscar
"No this isn't the old automatic five stars that pops up whenever
certain favorites of a reviewer come along... This is an album by
one of the few, very few women singing jazz today." (Dom Cerulli)

***** DOWN BEAT original review:
Pick Yourself Up
"Head and shoulders above any vocal album I've heard in recent
months." (Dom Cerulli)
