Although both musicians enjoyed long and fruitful careers, Bobby Hackett (1915-1976) and Zoot Sims (1925-1985) would only collaborate in a recording studio during the making of the two albums reissued here. No live recordings of them playing together are known to exist, with the sole exception of a short version of "When the Saint Go Marching In" from the soundtrack of the 195 7 Timex All Stars TV Show, in which both participate on an All Stars finale featuring dozens of musicians (but neither Hackett nor Sims is featured or clearly heard on this number, which is dominated by Louis Armstrong, Jack Teagarden and the Woody Herman orchestra, among many others). Strike Up the Band was carefully prepared by Glenn Osser (with Bob Thiele, who was the producer and co-composer along with Osser on six of the ten songs). Creole Cookin' has arrangements by Bob Wilber, who also plays the clarinet and the soprano sax on these sessions.
