SUPERB DIGIPACK EDITION!
Six tracks appear here on CD for the first time ever!!!
The complete classic album Atomic Basie, one of Basie's greatest hits, with splendid arrangements and tunes by Neal Hefti. As a bonus, three tracks from the same sessions that were not included on the original album, two rare songs first issued on a single disc, and a complete 17-minute live show from the period, featuring two tunes by Neal Hefti (one from Atomic Basie).
This edition presents the complete album E=MC2, also known as The Atomic Mr. Basie, one of the tophit LPs by the Basie band, with splendid arrangements and compositions by Neal Hefti. The release of this album in late 1957 marked the beginning of a glorious new phase in Count Basie's career during a time in which sustaining a big band was extremely difficult due to the change of musical tastes (for a while Basie even contented himself with leading small groups ranging from sextets to octets). As a bonus to this splendid album, we present three songs ('Silks and Satins', 'Sleepwalker's Serenade' and 'The Late Late Show') recorded during the second session of the Atomic Mr. Basie, which were never issued (nor intended to be issued) on the original album. They are all compositions by Jimmy Mundy and were originally recorded by Basie to be released on a Mundy album that was never completed. 'How Can You Lose?' and 'Five O'Clock in the Morning' were originally coupled on a single 45 rpm. Our CD is completed with a delightful rarity: a complete 17-minute soundtrack for a TV show from the period, featuring two tunes by Neal Hefti. It contains a second version of Joe Williams' blues 'Five O'Clock in the Morning'. This spirited show, which has excellent sound quality, appears here on CD for the first time ever.
